Diego appears and offers to help, secretly planning to lead the pair into an ambush. As the unlikely herd travels through dangerous ice caves and encounters prehistoric creatures, the trio begins to bond. Manny, haunted by a past where his own family was killed by humans, becomes deeply attached to the baby. Diego, too, has a change of heart after Manny saves his life from a lava flow. He confesses the ambush plot and helps Sid and Manny concoct a scheme to outwit the saber-toothed pack. Sid: (singing) "I'm Sid, the sloth
