Live+view+axis+link

Using the /axis-cgi/media.cgi endpoint, developers can request a live stream formatted as MP4 or Matroska (MKV). This is ideal for embedding live views directly into web browsers using the <video> tag without relying on proprietary plugins.

If you want to link directly to the video feed itself (bypassing the HTML web interface), Axis cameras use different protocols. The default path is usually /axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi .

When camera A detects motion, switch live view to camera B. live+view+axis+link

But the deeper layer is existential: This is also the structure of in a networked age. Using the /axis-cgi/media

Before diving into link configuration, it's important to understand what the Live View page is. This is the primary user interface of an Axis network camera or video server. It is typically accessed by entering the device's IP address into a web browser. Once logged in, this page provides the central viewing area for the video stream and contains various controls.

To show a live view on a website, you can use a Motion JPEG (MJPEG) stream link within a simple HTML image tag: The default path is usually /axis-cgi/mjpg/video

The "Link" aspect of the technology focuses on . It allows multiple cameras across different geographic locations to be managed under a single interface. This eliminates the "silo" effect often found in older CCTV systems. Furthermore, the live view functionality is optimized with Zipstream technology, which reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without sacrificing the critical detail needed for identification or forensic analysis.

Log into the camera’s browser-based admin panel. Create a dedicated user account assigned to the Viewer or ONVIF group to prevent exposing root admin credentials within the stream link.
